I will be the first to admit that I have not been at the Top of My Game lately. The Mad Camp Craft Planning Spree hasn’t improved the situation and there is House Cleaning hanging over my head. I am ashamed to admit that I have not ironed the facings of the polo yet (which means that it will not be going with me next week). I did manage to make my half of the starter dishrags.
Abigail made the other half aaaages ago.
While I was taking this picture, I got to wondering how many hand made dishrags other people have. Dishrag knitting is a side project for me so I only have about three that are officially In Use. It’s this sort of rampant curiosity that leads us to our First Dish Rag Tag Preliminary Event:
How Many Handmade Dish Rags Are In Your House?
- This event is open to anyone with the ability to post a picture somewhere on the internet.
- All you have to do is take a picture of your personal in-house Dish Rag Stack, post it and leave me a link in the comments on this entry. Please also mention how many dish rags appear in the picture so that I don’t have to count!
- Whoever can round up the the most hand made dish rags wins some fabulous yarn (I am told that it is well suited to a scarf project) generously provided by Darlene!
- The deadline for submissions is next Monday. At that time, I will consult my notes and the evidence to determine who really is the Dish Rag Queen (or King).
I know that I’m not the Dishrag Queen, but I’m looking forward to seeing who amond us is!
HOW FUN!
OOPS got carried away with enter….anyway you can find my stack at http://www.knittingasfastasican.blogspot.com You come up with such fun things.
Thanks
I have (looks around nervously) NO handknit dishrags.
(Runs away from the other knitters to hang head in shame.)
I have 10 pictured at http://drgnflz.blogspot.com . I have 11 in my apt but one is at the sink and had been used recently enough that I didn’t want to get everything wet just to shoot it. I know I’m not going to win but this was fun 🙂
I have five dishrags, because I have given away two. I will post pix when I am not so lazy. I know I cannot be Queen (sob).
I made a bunch last summer. They’re looking kind of faded now and I think it’s time to make some more!
Well, no contest here.
Literally.
I am making my first dishcloth for the contest. Lucky Jill. 🙂
Gulp, I have no dishrags – just a sponge, and I didn’t knit the sponge 🙁
Well, as many as I make, I give away and only keep the ones that come out crappy. I have about five in my cupboards for myself although I have a box load to send off for Rabbitch and some more on the needles for a local fundraiser.
Oh no, no, no … I don’t even have one. Altho, Dorothy sent me a great big skein of cotton that I won from her Relay Walk drawing. And she has been enticing me to start knitting some to replace those yucky sponges. Good idea. Oh goodness, there’s so many things I want to knit! If only I could knit faster. And if only I could stop agonizing over MS3. I mean dishrags have to be just so simple to knit right?
Here’s my entry. I’m sure that there are a few more lurking around the house. I rescued a couple from the dirty clothes to take the photos.

Hmmm. Not very many dishrags/washcloths hanging around in my house. I have to admit that I prefer sponges in the kitchen. But I have made a couple for the bath. They are a nice luxury there. I have given away nearly every one I’ve ever made.
I think I might have two. Course they’re both dirty, even though I don’t use them that often. We haven’t been able to get our act together around here for a while.
I’ve never made a dish rag… but swatches should count, right? 🙂

OK, I just finished posting my pic of 22 dishcloths and 4 tribbles!
Now I’m sorry I gave the stack to my mom last week…
Thanks for the fun!
STay Cool
Well I ran through the laundry, both clean and dirty, and found a total of ten! That’s shameful for me because I usually have twice that many. It’s been quite a while since I made dishrags! If only they never wore out or faded or got stained to the point of embarrassment. heh No picture. I know I’m not the Queen!
I have 8 handmade dishrags. My sister gifted me a few of them and I knit a few for myself.
I’m no dishrag queen (and I’m not even in DRT, unfortunately), but I have eleven. Nine are my fave YO dishcloth pattern, and two are lovely ones that Felt Like Knitting Beth made for me. And that’s really not enough, because I toss the day’s dishcloth into the laundry hamper every night and start with a fresh one the next day, and most of them are white, so I wash them with the whites. And with the exception of socks, we wear very little white, so I don’t do a white wash but maybe once every two weeks. So, I need a few more dishcloths!
Fun fun! Love the stack so far!
RATS…..I had several dozen and finally went around one day giving them out….I’m down to so few that they aren’t worth mentioning!!!
It will be fun to see who has the most and HOW MANY they have!!!!!!!!!

I am the official dishrag pauper.I have NO handknit dishrags in my house.I have knit skads of them.I give them all away as gifts.I am definitely going to keep the one I get in the swap!
I have lots of dishcloths. We use them for everything. I use lots of colors and patterns, and give many away for gifts.
You will find my well used dishrag stack of 16 on my BIO on team COTTON COMMANDOES. This has already been so fun and I want to thank you for the hard work and inspiration. A HIGH-five to You and Hubby…I would send a big hug, but not in character for a “commando”. 😀
I’ve posted my stack on my blog http://knit-whit.blogspot.com/2007/07/dish-rag-queen.html
I’m really looking forward to starting dish rag tag with my team the Rapid Rag Relayers!
Great idea…I bow down to all you “dishrag” queens 😉 I have only 8 in my house….Most of which have been knit within the last month. :0
I posted about that before here – http://knittingunderway.blogspot.com/2006/09/iron-on-tuesday.html – there are 32 in that drawer, and now I have about 36.
I know someone (Theresa?) totally has me beat, but mine are here http://flickr.com/photos/nevitt/834289484/. There are 10 in the picture, and two hiding somewhere. I’ve made bunches I’ve given away though!
