Merrily

For the first time in my personal history of sock knitting, I am making a sock that will actually require blocking to look good. Weird.

You know it’s lace because it looks like someone has chewed on it.

I love the Shi Bui – it is bouncy almost to the point of smooshiness and I am really happy with the interest that the color variations bring. I’m going to have to order some extra (hmmm, it looks like Simply Socks has more colors in stock)!

I’ve got the dress for Ellie that I mentioned in the last post on hold for a little while (I’ve got plenty of yarn so I can afford the delay). I’ve got another project in mind for the more immediate itty bitty knitty future: a little cabled romper thing from Baby Knits. I ordered some Rowan RYC Cashcotton in Sugar (it’s machine washable!) in the wee hours of the morning.* I also want to make a Fuzzy Mitten rabbit for her Easter basket. More deadline knitting. Sigh.

I am right on track with the CounterPain quota for 2008, with two squares completed for both January and February.

On to March!

There is something to be said for keeping one’s expectations low.

*Ellie likes to eat at 3am. Since that takes about an hour from start to finish, and my body likes to wake up at 5am anyway, there isn’t any point in going back to sleep. I use that time to read email, catch up on blogs, attempt to write thank you notes and (starting again this morning) walk. It’s kind of nice to have that time all to myself – even though Daylight Savings Time has really messed up how much of that happens in the actual daylight. The early morning quiet would be even better if I could convince the kid that bedtime is best when it happens at 8:30pm.

Yeah for me! I get to be the first to comment.

I am tempted by that yummy blue yarn. It sounds heavenly.
    What pattern are you using?

Enjoy those morning walks. They are the best.

Oh the new baby time. It really is the most glorious. The smell, the feel, the snuggle. We all (including the boys) send much love.

Yep, it’s official. You’re now the world’s luckiest new mom.

    Disgusting!

    😉

I remember those “it takes an hour to feed” days as well – everyone else around me with new babes took fifteen minutes! Took me almost four months to realize that the Munch wasn’t so much feeding as he was sipping & napping. The football hold woke him up so much that around five months old he finally (finally!) did that whole “the baby will pull away when full” thing that I had always been reading about but never quite believed in. I thought that something was wrong at first – “pulling away while nursing?!?!?!?? What’s up with that????” Until my MIL pointed out to me that (gasp!) it wasn’t that something was wrong – it was just that he was done! Ah…………..little wee babies! Even when they’re annoying and confusing they’re still beautiful, stunningly delicate, and amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember those days. 🙂 I called it “Baby Bootcamp” since it seemed to test my endurance in every way (especially the no sleep part!). Hugs to you and wee one.

With baby #2, I finally figured out how to nurse while laying down. Sleep is good. It’s great that you get an early morning walk! It sounds like motherhood is mostly bliss and not many trials yet – enjoy!

Just the thought of your day exhausts me, Emily! I always treaured those moments of the day before the babies woke up and after they went to sleep at night. It was such a delightful repose from being needed every waking moment! Enjoy your time alone!

Sorry about the no sleeping thing. But at least you have a Sweet Treat of a Baby to make up for it. That makes everything better in the end I imagine. Either way, thanks for the picture of WH and Ellie, they are my two favorite photography subjects, twice as nice when they are together.

It does get better. I also feed while lying down and usually go back to sleep while my little one is feeding, but there’s also something to be said for early mornings all to yourself!

Aw yes, 3 am feedings, one of the many joys of motherhood!!!

I’ve never blocked a sock before either, but then I knit pretty simple patterns.

Love the color of the Shi Bui…

I really like the new look of your website. Of course, with the irregularity of my website vists, it could really not be very new; however, I really like it!
Really is my word for the day!!

I never quite took to nursing James while laying down, so I sat up like you and it took about 45 minutes each time. I thought that was such a long time and wished i could get other things done at the same time. Now that he nurses so quickly and not as much, I almost wish for those long periods of time where he was content nursing for 45 minutes. ALMOST.

I love the Raindrop Lace Socks you’re knitting! I’ve knit a blue pair and now I’m knitting a yellow pair. Love the pattern. I just may have to get some of that Shibui sock yarn!!!
