Initiative

Between beach trips and Animal Crossing I’m just not real motivated lately.

That’s enough for today. I’ma go back to my view.

And catching bugs on my island. That Moai Statue isn’t going to pay for itself.

I’ve got Sheep updates. I really do. Two people have finished theirs (one of those people has finished a flock of them) and I’m almost done with mine.

But right this minute the breeze is just so nice.

Knit-Along?

I’ve enlisted seven test knitters (hey, why not) for the Sheep Pattern so it’s feeling more like a knit-along than a test knit. I’m not completely sure what one *does* during a knit-along beyond everybody knitting the same thing at once, but it sounds like fun!

In case you forgot what she looks like.

Does anyone else want to join in? I’ll leave the comments open until Saturday night to see if there are any takers. We’re knitting the as-yet-untested sheep pattern and sending me notes. I haven’t finished mine’s head yet, so you aren’t far behind.

If you’re posting progress pictures on your blogs, or if you’ve got sheep pictures you’d like to share let me know and I’ll post/share/whatnot here.

Sheep 3

Starting another sheep to knit along with the Test Knitters.

Sprout and Aslan Trends Lecco

I’ve never worked with the Lecco. If I were a responsible knitter, I’d swatch with it to make sure it will do. Since I am only a semi-responsible knitter, I’ve pulled out some Rowan Pure Life to carry along with it if it doesn’t work.

I should be able to tell pretty quickly. Right about the time I have to pull it all out and start over.

Anybody Interested?

We went to Mary Ester this past weekend and somehow I didn’t take a single picture. But I did finish up the pattern I’ve been working with (and all the pieces for newly listed Snow Cone Tabby).

Anybody want to test knit a sheep?

If there are a couple of you who intend to make a sheep anyway, and wouldn’t mind looking over the pattern while you do it, I would really appreciate it! The idea behind the sheep is for knitters to pick a fun an unique yarn for her wooly parts so that each sheep is one of a kind. I used ‘Fusion’ (held together with some Rowan Pure Life) for the example because it made such a nice yarn idea sampler. If you’ve got a bit of handspun or something that you don’t know what to do with, this might be a good project for it. You only need…

Wait. I haven’t done the math for the yarn amounts yet. I’ll do that right now.

**Thank you Volunteers! I still haven’t done the math.**

Trip Knitting

Piggy Feets in my lap.

We spent the night at the new Double Tree Hotel in Montgomery. Ellie is obsessed with Double Tree Hotels (they give you cookies when you check in). When we made the reservation, it was opening day but they tricked us and opened a few weeks early.

We ate at a really great burrito place, went to the Montgomery Museum of Art, had room service for breakfast and I finished up a Pig in the car.

Happenings

Last week was really something. Mom came for a visit, my sister came for a visit the day my Mom left, Michael was sick (which almost never happens). I started and tore out my next project. We got a dog.

truman

I don’t know why Ellie has a whistle around her neck.

Truman was hit by a car a few months ago – he was a Katrina rescue before that. His people couldn’t afford the surgery on his hip so they were going to put him to sleep. Our vet is getting “soft in his old age” and fixed him anyway. Truman was living at the vet with the clinic animals, Factor (the blood dog) and John Quincey (a cat that turned up in our yard a few years ago). Since he is an old man and indifferent to cats, I really can’t imagine a more perfect dog for us. So here he is. ALL of his fur is here too.

We also hosted a Guest Dog who turned up in the driveway on Saturday morning.

GuestDog

She has ears, she’s just doing something funny with them.

Guest Dog had beautiful manners and a collar but no tags. So she spent the weekend with us in the garage and the outdoor kennel. We had called everyone local to tell them we’d found her because I was sure her people would call looking for her on Monday. Sure enough, she had just hopped into the truck with our Amazing Animal Control Officer when our vet called saying that her people wanted to know where she was. I like it when our guest dogs have happy endings.

Speaking of happy endings, I’m about to sew that little calico together.

You would not believe the amount of concentration those spots took.

That little kitty head took forever! Mostly because I needed all my brain to work on her. I don’t get to use all of my brain on any one thing very often. Just see above for why.

What I’m Up To: Bunnies and Bears

That’s about all I have to show for the past week and a half. Whee!

I’ve got two critters to finish up (a custom calico and an orange Cat) and then I can start on my patterns for this year! I’ve got three alphabet animals planned with an option for a fourth.

The theme to this year appears to be texture.

Hydrangea Hippo

hydrangeahippoa2

I forgot that I was naming all the modern-style toys after flowers, so I went with ‘Hydrangea’ for the hippo. Now I’m working on a classic dog, an elephant and I’ve got a bear in a really luscious merino/alpaca in my To Go bag. After that, I need to do a classic monkey and a Roger cat and then I’ll feel re-stocked enough to work on something new!
