Remember back when we talked about a Four Seasons Swap? Y’all. It’s Spring! Technically, down here it’s still winter if you stand in the shade, but I’m going to overlook it because it’s swap time.
SIGN UPS ARE CLOSED! WATCH FOR THE SUMMER SWAP!**
Clean Spring Swap
*Boxes should include: Yarn for a dishcloth, knitting pattern for a dishcloth, a little something that’s good for cleaning (sample detergent, soap, hand lotion for after, you get the idea) and a small wind chime or similar springy item that makes you happy. Because I like wind chimes even though they don’t match my clean theme.
*Stash yarn and patterns are great (be careful of copyright on downloaded patterns). Unless you keep a treasure trove of goodies, you may have to spend a little on this swap. But not much if you don’t want since the Dollar Stores are jam-packed with silly little spring feel-goods!
*To sign up, leave me a comment with an email address where you can be reached by Friday night. I’ll send a brief questionnaire to collect mailing addresses and the like and make matches over the weekend.
*Ideally, swap packages should be in the mail by April 1. A week turn-around should keep anybody from overthinking it. This is an impulse swap!
I think that’s it! No more waiting! The leave-a-comment link is right
I did most of the matching and then handed off to Michael. I was feeling really guilty about the amount of work I unknowingly talked him into.
Y’all. We really need a universal ap for this. I’d happily, gleefully, delightedly pay money to host a swap with an ap that saves swappers’ profiles, and allows me to make custom questions for the current swap. And then makes matches with selected pieces of information. It’d be cool if it were smart enough to know that Zonda gifted Brenda (or whoever) in the last swap and not match them up again for the current one. And I’d like to be able to hand tweak the list before partner information is emailed in case I have insider information. I know someone will get right on this.
All that said: partner information was sent out last night! It came from Michael at YarnMiracle in case you need to check your spam folder. If you don’t know who you’re gifting, let him know. If you’ve got other questions or need your partner to clarify something while maintaining your anonymity, please let me know!
Start gathering goodness – boxes should be mailed no later then January 31. Quick reminder: if you are shipping to another country, go low-tech! DVDs and things don’t work the same way from nation to nation.
It’s been a while since there was any kind of fun around here. Don’t you think it’s about time for a swap? Just in time for Valentine’s Day:
The Sweet Nothing Swap
This is a fast, inexpensive swap. You’ll pick your favorite knitting notion(s)* and send that plus a Valentine to your Sweet Nothing Partner. The spending cap for this swap is $10. These are ‘sweet nothings’ after all – no need to get carried away! For this exchange, you’ll have an upstream (the person that treats you) and a downstream (the person that you treat) partner for a total of two new friends.
To simplify things, I’ve made a handy web form for participants: SIGN UP HERE
Sign ups will be open until January 31, partners will be assigned the first weekend in February and all Sweet Nothings should be mailed on or before February 8 so that they arrive in time for Valentine’s Day. Easy-peasy.
Need the link to the form one more time? SIGN UP HERE
*For the purposes of this swap, let’s define ‘notion’ as: an object that enables or enhances the knitting experience. Needles, yarn needles, stitch markers, row counters, gauge finders, pom pom makers, safety pins, buttons, stitch holders, needle rolls, sticky notes, magnifying glasses, organizers, awesome things that I have never seen or even thought of, and tiny boxes/tins to hold all of the above (with or without candy still inside). Some of my favorite notions are safety pins and paper clips, so objects not specifically designed for knitting are perfectly fine. If the use isn’t obvious, just be sure to explain!
The pile of tissues next to my computer proves it.
I’m going to make the kid start wearing gloves and a mask in public.
Pink kitchen, pink vase, white birds.
We rearranged a little bit before Christmas and moved Ellie’s little pink kitchen, her ‘pantry’ and her table and chairs to her room. This instantly transformed it from a baby’s room to a little girl’s room (boo hoo hoo). It’s really cute in there and I am thinking of moving in. We should probably take some pictures, but that will require me to neaten and get out the umbrella lamp (it is DARK on the back of the house).
In case you are having a hard time seeing it, I took the vase outside and created a tableau. We found out that C.C. put it in the swap box (Ellie says “Nank you!”) for us! I’m not sure a piece of glass has ever had so much love.
Still Life with Magenta Elephant. They match!
My home has never had so much pink.
Time to blow my nose and make a cup of tea with lots of honey.
A Take and Replace Swap that doesn’t require knitting!
She’s going to fix up a box with a bunch of knitty stuff in it and mail it to someone. That someone (it might be me!) is going to take out as much as suits his or her fancy and replace it with with different stuff! This is perfect. I’ve got several single skeins of Noro that I’ll never make into anything. You want it?
This team has had such a hard time. But they persevered through not one but TWO missing boxes! (Did the first one ever show back up?) Craziness. So if there was ever a team to deserve a big finish, it’s team K2WIN!
(Ellie is making fireworks noises behind me.)
ooooooo
aaaaaahhhhhh
oohhhhhhh
The box is a little singed and smells like gunpowder, but it’s contents are unharmed! Ellie was around to open this one, it made me very happy since some of the things in side were for her! Zonda, you are so sweet and thoughtful!
Ellie has spent a lot of time watching me arrange box contents the past couple months, she gave this one a try herself. Seriously, no prompting from me. She just got everything and stacked it in her little chair.
So I took a picture.
And then I did a little rearranging so I could take another picture.
Really such fun stuff, the wash cloth earned a fish face (we have to dissolve it in the tub tonight), the card got a “BAA”, the stitch markers are sophisticated and the hand cream and lip balm are in the nick of time! Long Leaf Pine NC post card is not pictured (Ellie had it in the marsupial pocket on her sweatshirt), but we’ve got Long Leafs galore outside! Your captain, Shawn, will love her dish cloth. It’s the symbol of a challenging Race Complete. What could be a nicer trophy?
There will be one more Dish Rag Tag post to announce the MVP and Fastest Turn Around Winners. If you’ve got any last minute MVP nominations, please email them to me before Monday (November 9, 2009) at noon. I’ll also have a short survey (to help me make this even better for next year) and another little drawing related to survey participation!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to find the darkest room and help Ellie make princess shadows on the wall.

A beautiful dish cloth for Captain Alexis, bubbles for Ellie, a great journal for me and Nestle Crunch for all! Thank you so much Lesley! And Congratulations to the Nifty Nines for a successful completion of the race!
PS The Paper Lantern Bag (Box Seven: DISHY DOZEN’s Sara: Dish Rag Tag the Sequel) has Ellie’s Cardigan-in-Progress in it. In-Progress is the important part of that sentence. It’s taking an age.
