Her wig is knotted on through her scalp (like blanket fringe) and then tacked around the bottom of her head. It worked great. This one’s hair has three different yarns since I was using scraps, but I’ll find something for the pattern example that will help me get a more accurate idea of yards needed. I’ve also got to locate a line with skin tones (I’m thinking EcoButterfly but it’s floofy so I’m on the fence). What I used for this one (KnitPicks Simply Cotton in Ginger, doubled) has been discontinued. But I looooove her tail (I’m so glad I though about that little picot edging, it’s a great detail) and will use it for the pattern. That one comes in other colors so I’m trying to decide which way to go for he pattern example’s tail.
She looks fabulous. You might want to look at Vinni’s Colors. She’s based in South Africa, but retails to the USA. I’ve made a few of your patterns using her yarn and it works well. Also the creation of the yarn provides employment to women from under-privileged communities, so it’s got a feel good aspect to it.
She doesn’t have a retail shop in the US yet, but I’m printing the catalog and looking for a retailer who ships to the US. There are so many colors!
Before I started spinning my own yarn, I used Jaimieson Shetland double knitting. (Ivory, peach and oatmeal are skin colors) It’s tough and rough as Shetland sheep can be. So if you’re used to knitting with soft yarns, these will be prickly but they will last for many years if the moths don’t get to them. Lots of colors too. She turned out darling Em! Can’t wait for the pattern.
Omg, tots Adorbs!!! Need a test knitter??
