Oh. Hey There, November.

Gobble Gobble

Some of you may remember how I wanted to put together another set of Birdies. It turns out that the three that I wanted to include are actually radically different designs even though they have the same basic body shape. So I will be releasing them one at a time instead of as a 12 page collection. Since it’s November, you get Turkey.

He’s only available on Ravelry so far, but I will make him available on Etsy for November.

Happy November!

Take Two

It’s the first day of preschool! Jump for joy!

jumping in striped legs

Check out those stripes!

You thought we already did that? She spent a total of eight days at the old place. The third Friday morning, she told me she would rather stay home and clean the house with me than go to school and have birthday cupcakes with her class. We were already REALLY unhappy with the place (our choices are few) but sticking with it as long as she seemed to be enjoying herself. We called the Montessori place a couple towns south (it’s a drive or she would have been there already). They said “Sure we have room, but if you aren’t in a hurry, we’re opening a new school down the road from you!” We weren’t in a hurry and school started today.

And she was not shy.

The Official Pattern of Dish Rag Tag V: V is for Victory is up and ready for download on Ravelry and in my Free Patterns (it’s at the very bottom). Incidentally, the Free Patterns page has been spruced up a bit and now has pictures.

If you’ll excuse me, I need to get started on Ellie’s Halloween costume! I am so glad school opened this week – I had no idea when I was going to find the time to get that done.

D is for Dog

At long last.

D is for Dog is ready for purchase in my Etsy Shop and on Ravelry.

I usually encourage folks to shop Ravelry for patterns, but if you don’t have a preference, please shop Etsy this time. The Etsy for Animals Charity of the Month is the Urban Animal Alliance, a non-profit that is working to eradicate dogfighting. In September, a buck from every dog pattern sale on Etsy goes toward their education programs.

Bare Feet

The Bear’s feet were a struggle.

I only kept the ones with promise.

Until I realized that I was going about it the wrong way. I want a round, sticky-out, foot-like foot, so I put all my efforts into rounded toes (without putting a seam along the top). After a few days of frustration, I looked at my sketch again

and realized what I really wanted was a heel.

You just turn it like on a sock. A toe up sock. Which caused another set of design challenges such as how to turn a toe up heel without wrapping or holes or angst. But I think I’ve got it.

Fat rounded feet.

I only wish I saw this video (Priscilla Wild’s technique – it’s basically what I came up with) before I spent several hours reinventing the wheel.

I mean reinventing the ‘heel.’

Dog Days

I’ve got my Beta knitters, thank you!

he's like the Cat except he's a dog

He’s a lot like the Cat except he’s a Dog.

You’ll have to use/work double pointed needles, easy short rows, ssk, k2tog and lift-the-strand between the stitches increases. And kitchener/grafting. But you’d be surprised if there wasn’t.

Incidentally, that guy is made with Balance Bulky from O-Wool. One of my favorite new favorites.
