Would you look at that?!

8″ leg, stretches easily to 12″ around and a 12.25″ foot (size 15s are 12.31).

That is the first of the Great Big Socks. To illustrate what a heroic feat* this was, here is one of my socks with the GBS:

compare and contrast

Mine are a 7″ leg, stretch to 9.5″ around and have a 8.5″ foot.

Here is how much yarn was left on the ball of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport:

jawbreaker sized yarn ball

It’s about the size of a jawbreaker. I made the toe green for fun.

So the answer to the Great Question of “Just how big a sock can a person make with a ball of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport?” is: you can make a sock that will fit a US size 15E manly man foot. I would recommend a 7.5″ leg for the faint of heart – to be sure that you have enough for the toe.

And now if you’ll excuse me, I am baking cookies to celebrate.

*Haha! I made a pun!

~~I forgot to add that my Darling Sister loves her Fetchings!~~

That’s a big sock! I would celebrate too. I love the chocolate colored yarn. I’m almost convinced to try the Fetching myself – but not yet.

That’s one big sock, Emily. Congratulations on completing it! I’m also so glad to hear that your sister likes her pair of Fetchings ~ Yay! Cookies. Yummmm…

haha! I’m laughing at your pun 🙂

That *is* a big sock. And I thought my husband had gigantic feet (his are only size 13).

    Very nice.
I am knitting size 13s with a high arch, in fingering weight yarn, AND in Trekking 100 that is much prettier than my socks! I think that effort is about the same. I look forward to celebrating.

Wow, that is one heck of a Big Sock. I’m really glad that my husband’s feet are alot smaller than those! I want to suggest one thing. Worsted Weight Yarn!
Just kidding. Your finished sock looks really nice. Celebrate with cookies and Chocolate.
    I liked your pun.
Good luck with the second sock.

so after all the hacking and sputtering the fetchings weren’t contagious? or did she take ’em home and lysol the heck out of ’em before wearing?

and the sock. that is huge. H.U.G.E. i’d like to say that after seeing that i’ll never complain about knitting socks for my hubby again but i’m not sure i could keep the promise. i am terribly impressed though!

Oh my. Remind me to screen any future friends for foot size; I am not sure I could bear to make a sock that large, so it would be better just to avoid meeting people who might require such socks in the first place.

I love how yours came out, though! I have no problem with admire other people’s giant socks from the safe distance of cyberspace.

Unreal… you are such a good person to knit socks for that great-big footed man! The socks look great and the green toe was the perfect finishing touch. Eat a cookie for me 🙂

The Mitts of Death were TOTALLY awesome this week! It has been outrageously cold the past two mornings and my Mitts of Death have kept me from having to break the ice cycles off the ends of my fingers.

Good Gravy, that is a Big Sock. No wonder you never thought you would finish.

    herculean feet – for sure!
My daughter’s boyfriend has feet that size (and no, I haven’t made him socks yet)
Hat’s off to you Em !

Oh my, that is one HUGE sock! And the Shepherd Sport is such an ample skein- I can’t believe you used almost all of it on ONE sock! Nice job!
