After frogging back to the ribbing twice, knitting with markers and without, and one backwards cable, the MustHave finally has made some decent progress.
Will that little pinch at the crossover flatten out? Please don’t make me go back…
This is the most complicated thing I’ve knit so far and is taking all of my concentation. I am getting into the flow of the pattern now, and can see which way the next cable is supposed to go and what row I’m on. This is making things a LOT easier. Practice makes perfect, I suppose (HAH). I really thought I might have to throw things in frustration yesterday. I mean: three different charts and increases at the same time?! I have found that chocolately rewards motivate me.
Betty might finally understand that Angus is not interested in eating her! He is only interested in eating her food. There was some sniffing today without any fits (most of this is due to Angus being the Best Dog in All the World). They are just going to have to suck it up and get used to each other since Betty has decided that she is an indoor kitty (open doors have no appeal for her, too bad my rugs do). If she would only stop doing this whenever this catches her by surprise.
Looking at the picture of my my sad, lumpy sleeve makes me want to pull it all out and start over again. Especially when I look at Rebecca’s gorgeous thing.
Hey Emily! The sleeve looks great. I hear that when you swatch for the Must-Have you should swatch in the pattern. I read that when you swatch in stockinette stitch that the sweater has a tendency to come out a size too big, or a size too small. It looks great tho! Don’t rip it out.
I hope that little pinch isn’t a problem. My Weekend sweater has pinches at all of the crossovers.
When you do cable crosses, you mostly ALWAYS get a slight pinch where it crosses because the yarn is pulling in different directions. A hint is to try doing the stitches for the cable LOOSELY on the row or two before the cross. You can try it and see how that goes. Also, now it looks like you’ve got enough on the needles to measure – I’d measure the total width now. You seem to be a tight knitter like me – and I tend to knit cabled patterns even tighter. When I’m knitting cables, my mantra is “Loosen up, loosen up, loosen up” lol. I also see that your last knit stitch before a purl is kinda loose. This may be why you feel it’s looking “lumpy”. What I do for this problem is to do the last knit and first purl VERY tightly, which seems to help with snugging up that last stitch. The purl to knit transition never has that issue, so usually I try to keep the tension loose on those stitches. I think it looks really great! Unless the width for the sleeve is off, I’d keep going.
Poor Angus, he is so misunderstood. The sleeve really does look great. What a fun color. And, yummmm chocolate. After Robert discovered that I ate the whole box of fudgecycles in two days he won’t buy me anymore until Friday, which is when he says they should have been finished. But that is mostly his fault because he knew that I have no self control when it comes to fudge. And they fell REALLY good to a soar throught. Ho hum. I guess the cats and I will have to strike out on our own…
Emily, what happened to your comments? Your last couple of posts don’t have them. If you’re ever in Atlanta again, there is a great place called Strings and Strands. They have lots of yarn, including Rowan and Debbie Bliss. They’re on Wieuca Rd.
