At the Ballet
We took a pile of yarn

and added a large amount of Kool-Aid

and ended up with this:
Mom’s is pink lemonade, Great Gran’s is grape and mine is lemonade with three packets of orange thrown in for good luck.
Pretty neat, huh? Especially for folks with No Idea what they were doing. I have no pictures of the actual dyeing process because, as many of you already know, my Mother and Grandmother do not show up on film. But we did have a great time and at the end we were happy with our results. I am also having fun with the Flower Basket Shawl, the Kool-Aid Yarn’s Destiny. It’s complex but not painful and really pretty. As you can see from the picture: Mom is winning, but Great Gran and I am catching up.
The second sock is finished! I made it to the toe last night during my cousin’s ballet recital (Cinderella - she was a step-sister) so that the second sock (who was suffering from Second Sock Syndrome) could get a little culture.

And now I have a confession to make. I have discovered Second Life. Whatever you do, don’t try it. It will cut into your Regularly Scheduled Knitting Time and make you Stay Up Late. Kind of like sock yarn. I miss sock yarn.

The yarn looks great! And the FBS is a fun and relatively painless knit. Enjoy!

I think that is so neat that you, your mother and grandmother are all knitting the same shawl!!! And the colors are beautiful…..

What fun you had!
Beautiful! fun colors!
Your shawls will be full of lots of giggling-fun-energy since you have such a good time dyeing them
I think that it is so awesome that you three all knit together.
How much longer are you on that sockyarn diet??
May 22nd, 2006 at 9:29 am
You’re so lucky to have your mom and gran to knit with - I don’t know anybody else who does.
And your dye jobs came out beautifully!!! How did you finally decide to approach the job to get things evenly dyed?

They all came out great! I was wondering if the lemonade flavor would be dark enough to dye. I wonder what it would have looked like without the orange added. I guess the only way to know would be to try it myself.

Those lemonaid colors are scrumptious!

Nice yarn Emily! I bet Kool Aid never realized that they were going to do a booming business with knitters! I wonder if they will start coming out with specialty colours (forget about flavours!). It looks so good.

How fun! Your cousin is a pretty stepsister. They always are.

Wow I gotta say you went a little Kool Aid-happy! =P What gorgeous colors you came up with. It will definitely make a beautiful shawl!

What a glam picture of your cousin! Someday I’ll send you a photo of what I had to look like when I played a stepsister in the musical, and your cousin with thank all that is good and holy that no one inflicted any such thing on her.
I am resisting Kool-Aid dyeing. I am resisting Second Life. Even without those things I have not knit a row in two weeks. Do not tempt me with new activities.

OMG (that’s goodness - I don’t swear. . well, not much.) Your new couch looks gorgeous! Antique? Charming little pussycat posing in her extreme cuteness way!
Your K.A. dyeing looks lovely. Maybe you could get some sock yarn to dye again. Just turn away from temptation, lady & return to the yarn. I know you can do it :o)
