Good News and Bad News

Well. I’ve got some good news and some bad news. Good news first.

wound up hand-dye

My yarn that Becky and I dyed looks great!

haystack #2

The second haystack Sock is almost finished

getting a driveway

The Black Top guys are here doing the driveway!

Now for the bad news. It’s pretty bad.

The gauge was right. Honeydew was exactly the size it was supposed to be. Unfortunately, that size was not the size that would fit me. How I managed to try it on twice and didn’t notice (read: refused to admit) that it was entirely too big to be cute until I was working on the sleeves I really couldn’t tell you. I spent some time fantasizing about blocking it in hot water and having it shrink four inches (it’s cotton, cotton shrinks in hot water)! But in the end I knew what had to be done:

honeydew reduced to its parts

Sigh.

Don’t worry, I’ll finish it (May is green), but I won’t get to wear it this weekend.

I’ll end on an Up Note: Yarn Miracle’s pictures were brought to you today by my new camera phone!

me and Mr. Pink

His name is Mr. Pink. Naturally.

Mom needed a new phone. To get a new phone at a discount, you have to sign a new contract. Mom didn’t like any of the free phones (ugly, no colors). The only ones she liked were these. Because they come in pink. But she didn’t want one unless I got one too. So there you go. Takes a pretty good picture for a phone, I think.

PS My RSS folder (it’s like bloglines, but not as fancy) says that you guys have posted 126 new blog entries since I last checked. I thought that by subscribing to feeds I could keep up with twice as many blogs in the same amount of time. I am now willing to admit that I was wrong about that. Terribly, terribly wrong. But there is so much great stuff going on that I hate to miss any of it!

Your dyed yarn does look so pretty! So sorry about the sweater — you’ll be happy that you re-did it.

  2. Becky

The yarn looks great, the phone looks fun, the driveway is progressing! YEAH! (what about the big crack??) I love that green yarn too.

  3. Rachel

Wow, I’m quite impressed with the photo quality! I hope it does phoney things (I guess what I mean is phone-like things) equally well.

Your dyed yarn did come out great — will you go back for another round someday?

Your yarn looks great Emily! And you know I just bought that same exact phone this weekend. I even went out on a limb and bought pink. I’m loving it!

Your Mom sounds great! Sorry about honeydew. 🙁 At least you were honest with yourself and didn’t finish it before you ripped.

    The yarns came out fabulous!

    Boo on the honeydew!

Too fun on the phone! I have the pink one too!!

We should start a pink phone club (you, me, amanda, and your mom can be the charter members)!

I’m so sorry about Honeydew! But, it hurts sometimes to do the right thing. I think you’ll be glad you did (I have been through that before).

Cool phone! One day I might be current and modern enough to get a camera phone.

So sorry about the Honeydew! Just the thought of frogging a whole sweater makes me want to cry. But that’s better than having a sweater that’s way too big. Been there.

I love the dyed yarn, btw! Maybe I’ll pick up some green dye when I go out later today…

So sorry about the sweater frogging!! But the yarn does look fantastic and the pink phones are fabulous!! I LOVE PINK and my daughter keeps telling me I should get a pink cell phone 😉 Yeah, ok, I’m stil waiting for an ipod 🙂

Oh, poor Honeydew and poor Emily! But you had no choice. What good would a too big sweater be? I have lost count on how many sweaters I have ripped over the years. I bet it will be perfect this time!

I hate you had to rip out your melon top!! I know it will be gorgeous when you are finished!! I love the way your dyed yarn looks!!! Oh the possibilities!

My mother has Mr Pink’s black twin! 🙂

I like the haystack socks, they look so… delicate.

    Have a nice day 🙂

Love the yarn you dyed – thanks for the link – looks like they’re pretty affordable – maybe I’ll gradually make the switch to acid dyes? hmmm….

Great photos for a camera phone!! Isn’t technology amazing!!?? I remember when I didn’t believe someone could get a message via a pager much less get a *camera phone* through my brain. Wow! 🙂

Awesome new phone – and I’m amazed at the quality of pics it takes… I agree with Leah, maybe there should be a pink phone club 🙂 guess that would mean that I need one too ! Hah! I only just got my very first cell phone a little while ago..
The yarn is incredible! Are you sure you don’t want to keep on dyeing?? You did an awesome job!
And funny about the bloglines updates.. I’m having the same dilemma! Soo many wonderful ones to read!

  16. Melissa

I got one of those nifty new phones too. Can you tell me how to get the pics on my blog? I’m so technicalogically challenged! That sucks about the Honeydew, but those yarn cakes look great! 🙂

Gotta love Moms & their taste in phones! :o) You’re going to have more pretty socks with that loverly stuff you dyed! I’m glad you’re not too upset about that honeydew sweater & still determined.
