Be mine.

Valentine

Be mine.

I started making Valentine’s for family and friends* my Freshman year of college as an effort to rescue the holiday from its lovey dovey reputation. I really enjoy it even though I tend to put it off until the last minute. These got mailed on Monday.

My friend is going to New York on Saturday and really really really wants to take his socks with him. We are leaving to go to Atlanta on Friday, so I am trying desperately to finish them. This blog post is wasting valuable knitting time!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

*Again – I made them when I was little (Mom’s idea, of course). She taught me to make a heart from a folded piece of paper. Pretty good trick.

Would you look at that?!

8″ leg, stretches easily to 12″ around and a 12.25″ foot (size 15s are 12.31).

That is the first of the Great Big Socks. To illustrate what a heroic feat* this was, here is one of my socks with the GBS:

compare and contrast

Mine are a 7″ leg, stretch to 9.5″ around and have a 8.5″ foot.

Here is how much yarn was left on the ball of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport:

jawbreaker sized yarn ball

It’s about the size of a jawbreaker. I made the toe green for fun.

So the answer to the Great Question of “Just how big a sock can a person make with a ball of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport?” is: you can make a sock that will fit a US size 15E manly man foot. I would recommend a 7.5″ leg for the faint of heart – to be sure that you have enough for the toe.

And now if you’ll excuse me, I am baking cookies to celebrate.

*Haha! I made a pun!
