Puppies!

So once again I find myself with a rant about abandoned pets. What do people think “DOMESTIC” means?!

Our latest guests:

doggies

A mom and her puppies (boy and girl).

We found these guys at the end of my grandmother’s road, they are super sweet and well-behaved (I’ll try to get a better picture in the yard when we go out to play this afternoon). Here are the puppies at the vet this morning.

at the vet

We are all good friends.

They had their first round of shots and we’ve got wormy stuff to give them. The tan one has red mange which is perfectly treatable and we have the medicine for that! If anybody wants a dog (and lives kinda near) this is a great opportunity! The only reason they can’t live here are the cats we’ve already rescued. They are great little dogs. We’re in the process of getting in touch with our local humane society to see if we can get them fostered out instead of taking them to the county shelter – a cage on the front porch is Not Ideal. Even if it is roomy and the blinds are down so the cats can’t torment them.

Speaking of torment. I am at the heel of the first Bloomin’ Feet Sock. Again.

heel #3

Recognize the pattern, Lynne?

I should have started with Angel’s Rest (Fiber Trends Peak Experience) in the first place. It’s perfect and zipping right along.

Oh, they are so adorable! I can’t understand how anyone could do something like that! I even adopted a pet beta after it had been used in some behavioral experiments in a biology lab I was TA for. I really hope you can find good homes for them.

  2. Debra

Sorry, I just adopted a “drop off” that arrived in December. My husband says we’re at our limit (2 cats, and 2 dogs) Emily, I think you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat animals. I’m liking you more every day.

Oh, how sweet. You are a great person to give them a chance. I hope you find homes for them soon. I’m also in Alabama, but with 9 (yes, nine!) rescued kitties all living inside, we are at quota.

Best of luck with the pups!!

Puppies! How *dare* anyone drop off a poor animal just like that. Would they do it to their children. I’m happy there are people like you who care, Emily. The tan one’s face is breaking my heart! I hope they find loving homes.

What sweet babes! It’s so sad that some people can be that way. Good for your gentle heart.

And, good luck with the sock. I’m sure it will turn out lovely!

That’s so sad. I’m glad you took them in, though, it would be sadder to see them on the side of the road (as we all too often do). My cat would KILL me if I brought home a dog! He’s tempermental enough as it is.

SUCH adorable pups!!! I just don’t understand why people won’t take care of their pets so situations don’t arise like this!!! I hope they will be fostered and end up in wonderful homes….they are lucky to have someone like ya’ll to take such good care of them!!!!

I don’t understand the heartlessness of so many people, the way they abuse animals. I live in the south, and southerners seem to be notorious for it. My sis-in-law lives in the country on a dead end road. I’ve lost count of the number of animals that have been abandoned at her place. She’s kept many of them, but you can only rescue so many. 🙁

I’m thankful those pups were found by someone caring such as yourself, and not left to starve and fend for themselves.

    I love your socks! 🙂

  17. Janet

You’re wonderful to take such good care of them! I bet that the cats would eventually get used to them (they’d just have to!) and everyone would end up being good friends – that is if you decide to keep them.

  18. Laura

Aww those poor sweet little doggies. AWWWW!!!!!

I love how that pretty blue line is winding its way up and through your sock! Very pretty. Nice match for yarn to pattern. 🙂

  19. Beck

beautiful sock Em! Yum! and beautiful pups too. It’s hard to tell which one is the mom because they all look the same size in the pics. I’ll bet you’ve gotten more kisses in the last few days than you can stand! nothing like puppy kisses!

  20. Lynne

Emily, they are beautiful! I’m so glad you were able to use the pattern…it’s sort of like we;re passing on from the Toasty Toes to the Bloomin Feet generation! The dogs are very cute.

How horrible that people are so unthinking as to be able to abandon their pets. My father has a farm and people seem to think that they can just dump their cats there. Barn cats are very different from the typical house cat and the unthinking people just dump Fluffy, thinking that she can take care of her self. Sad.

    Nice socks though.

  22. Rachel

I hope those little guys find a good home. I’m not much of a dog person, but it breaks my heart to think of the poor abandoned puppies that selfish, unthinking humans allowed to be born and then failed to take care of. I admire you for the good work you do to help them (the animals, not the stupid people).

  23. Teyani

Your socks are looking lovely –

Such a wonderful big heart you have dear Em – I suspect that perhaps the animals who are nearby where you live have all been whispering to each other “go hang out near there, she’s a kind hearted softie.. she’ll help you” I hope that they will be adopted quickly. In the meantime, they are lucky to have you!

btw – your counterpane is amazing!! truly beautiful.
