The Drama

Ellie’s mittens are finished.

angst

In 2010, I might have knit half a dozen things that I didn’t sell. In 2011, I plan to knit more for my family and myself. Maybe I’ll finish that sweater I started more than three years ago.

feeling better

In 2010, Yarn Miracle bought necessary (but boring) things like new tires for the Jeep and ER glue for Ellie’s cheek. In 2011, Yarn Miracle is going to buy a new couch and chair for the den. They will have fitted slipcovers that I can replace when they show a lot of wear.

Yay!

In 2010, I didn’t participate in a single swap (DRT doesn’t count). I will be a part of at least one swap in 2011. Is sock swapping still in fashion?

Sit Down for This

I’m knitting something that isn’t a toy or a CounterPain Square.

Be still my heart.

Ellie needs some mittens. I’m doubling Rowan Wool Cotton on US 5s (discontinued color – I had to find more on Ebay to match her existing hat) and working from the Handy Book of Patterns by Ann Budd. Great book, by the way. I’ve mentioned it before.

For mittens you need a couple stitch markers. Well, you don’t NEED them need them, but if you want to not have to pay a lot of attention, stitch markers are helpful.

If wishes were fishes…

Between the mitten leftovers and unraveling her hat, I hope to have enough yarn for a larger hat. I should have just started over with new yarn on the set – but the hat fit when I committed to the mitten yarn.

Christmas is Early

I’m afraid that my gift to you this year has some assembly required.

Surprise! It’s a garland!

Smitten (a Holiday Garland) is now available as a free download at KnitPicks.com.

I knit a mitten a day for most of October. After I memorized the pattern (around mitten number 6), they took me about an hour each. Marcia, my Top Secret Test Knitter, says that her first one took about twice that long – but she was correcting my mistakes at the same time. Long Story Short: If you want 24, it’s time to get started!

This was my “Guess what’s next?” picture that I never posted.

If you don’t need an advent calendar, put letters on the mittens and spell something festive or seasonal like “Let it snow!” Or use them for ornaments. Or money holders. They are about 4.5″ from finger tip to cuff so small toys, treats or jewelry will fit neatly inside.

Happy holidays! If you make something with the pattern, I’d love to see it in the Smitten Flickr Group.
