Hydrangea Hippo

hydrangeahippoa2

I forgot that I was naming all the modern-style toys after flowers, so I went with ‘Hydrangea’ for the hippo. Now I’m working on a classic dog, an elephant and I’ve got a bear in a really luscious merino/alpaca in my To Go bag. After that, I need to do a classic monkey and a Roger cat and then I’ll feel re-stocked enough to work on something new!

Frames

Michael needs a new pair of glasses. A box of five sample frames from Warby Parker arrived in the mail yesterday. These are Ellie’s favorites.

They match her Build-a-Bear glasses

Oh, the beard. He couldn’t decide if he was doing Movember, and then liked his beard and left it. Ellie LOVES it. And I love it when Ellie draws his picture: he’s got a squiggly on his head for his ‘curlers’ and a squiggly on his chin for his beard.

We’ll just see how long this post-more-with-more-pictures-and-less-words thing lasts.

Poppyseed Cat

Poppyseed Cat

It’s getting harder and harder to come up with flavor names for all the different grays. While I’m waiting on my Ravenwood Kid (arriving sometime this summer), I’m trying to knit up the other cashmere I have. Poppyseed is made from Jade Sapphire in the aran weight.

Egg Pattern Winners

I finished the eggs!

eggsinthebasket

Yes, there were six colors in the kit.

Ellie and I have been taking turns hiding them in different rooms for the other one to find. In fact, the yellow egg is hidden so very very well in my bedroom that neither of us can find it.

There were so many of you interested in happy chickens and knitted eggs, that I decided that a dozen patterns was a more appropriate number for an egg-related giveaway. The random number generator has selected:

18 – kathy b
12 – celestinw
6 – Ruth
27 – Katie
21 – Cathy B
24 – Sophie
22 – Coralee
28 – Cassie
2 – Kimberly
30 – John
4 – Susan
10 – Donna B.

It took me FOREVER to get all of those sent! If you didn’t receive a pattern by way of a Ravelry gift and should have, please let me know and I’ll fix it. The random number generator seems to favor folks with the initial ‘B’. Just a tip for the next giveaway.

Y’all best get to knitting, winners – it’s a good thing these are quick like a bunny!

Eggs in One Basket

easterbasket

I bought myself an Easter treat!

For two years, I’ve been trying to get myself together well enough to host a big “Factory Farm Eggs are Just Mean have an Eggless Easter” awareness campaign. Purchasing eggs from factory farms to celebrate new life, new growth and a beautiful spring is simply hypocritical. The chickens that lay those pretty, white eggs suffer horribly and may already be dead. As part of that, I’ve been working on an egg pattern. But lots of folks have already designed eggs. So I kind of stall.

**The contest is closed – many thanks for participating! Winners and deliveries tomorrow night (or Thursday).**

When Elizabeth from the Sitting Tree offered a kit with little skeins, the pattern and the tote (with a yellow bottom YAY) I really couldn’t help myself. Her little egg pattern is elegant in its simplicity and I’m going to give away half a dozen of them (them = Elizabeth’s pattern in PDF form) to random commenters on this post. Even if you call me names in your comment and say that I am trying to ruin agribusiness you are still in the running. But if you’ve ever seen a picture of chickens crammed into a battery cage, you won’t be calling me names. Just leave a comment before the end of the day Tuesday, March 26, and be sure that I can reach you by email to send your pattern.

If you do buy eggs this Easter, look for humane certification labels or find a friend with well cared for backyard birds. Even better: knit yourself an alternative.

Mini

Ellie and I spent last week at the Farm with Great Gran. This week she is on her own! Well, mostly. We still make sure to visit once a day (and when we don’t Aunt Wendy does), I talk to her on the phone 3-4 times a day (I’ve been doing that for 10 years so that’s not new) and Great Gran decided she’s not going shopping anymore so that’s our job too. But anyway: YAY progress!

I also have a small confession to make.

I love dollhouses.

Ellie got her dollhouse from Gran and Pop (my parents) this Christmas. After I emptied my PayPal account furnishing it (Lundby is awesome), I remembered how I like tiny things. Since my own dollhouse (from my granddad when I was 5) is well-outfitted and I need to leave Ellie a little space to make cool things for herself as she grows, I gave some thought to what else I could make tiny. Three guesses what I came up with and the first two don’t count.

yarnstore

A yarn shop!

I’ve assembled the building, and now I am working on the stock. I need lots of little yarn.

yarnstorecubbies

The cubbies used to be a thimble display case.

Can’t sell just one type of yarn, so I’m working on lots of different fibers.

yarnstoreskeins

That’s my organic cotton and my lace weight (sewing thread).

It’s just a little thing that is completely consuming my interest in between knitting rabbits. It’s really all about the rabbits this time of year.
