D is for Dog

At long last.

D is for Dog is ready for purchase in my Etsy Shop and on Ravelry.

I usually encourage folks to shop Ravelry for patterns, but if you don’t have a preference, please shop Etsy this time. The Etsy for Animals Charity of the Month is the Urban Animal Alliance, a non-profit that is working to eradicate dogfighting. In September, a buck from every dog pattern sale on Etsy goes toward their education programs.

With Relish

We’ve got a rainy rainy rainy Labor Day Weekend* happening here. So I made Black Eyed Pea Relish while listening to the weather radio tell me all about the various watches and warnings. Want some?

eat your veggies

Also known as: Alabama Caviar, Black Eyed Pea Salad, Black Eyed Pea Dip

For the dressing you’ll need:
6 T. balsamic vinegar
1/4 c. olive oil
2 T. sugar
1 t. salt
1/2 t. black pepper

Whisk all that together in a 12 cup (ish) container with a lid until the sugar is dissolved.

Add:
2 cans (or four cups) of prepared black eyed peas, rinsed and drained
1.5 cups of chopped bell pepper, I’ve got red, yellow and green pictured, but I tend to use all green since that’s what I grow
half a purple onion, diced – about 1/2 c.
half a pint of cherry tomatoes, halved

Toss the veggies and dressing together, put on the top and refrigerate it overnight. Don’t bother tasting until it’s been in there at least four hours. Serve with saltines.

I’ve seen this with corn. As much as I like corn, it’s better without. I’ve also seen it served with tortilla chips. That’s just wrong.

*Lee is a Depression but it’s still going to rain forever.

Get Ready!

Ellie and I packed boxes today!

one two three

Yarn, dish cloth, instructions, pattern, treat, repeat.

To be ready to pack your box, make sure you HAVE a box! Grab a Small Flat Rate Box (the ones that would hold a big book) the next time you are in the post office. They don’t make ’em like they used to, so it’s good to be prepared in case your team’s box is tattered and torn when it arrives at your doorstep.

Besides a spare box, have your needles ready. Great Gran and I used needles sized US6. Mom used US7. Whatever needles you typically use for dish cloths are probably fine.

The only other thing you need is a treat for your downstream teammate. Keep in mind that the boxes are itty bitty, so your treat should be too.

Everything else is in the box.

Team Captains, you’re it!

The Dirty Dog Brothers

Meet Dwain and Dougie. They went off to the shelter this morning and I expect that they will have forever homes in a day and a half.

Here’s Dwain.

And here’s Dougie.

Cuteness has it’s perks. Just ask Ellie.

I’m not sure what I was thinking when I bought those shorts.

Status Update: Servers and Scholars

Ellie had this to say about preschool:

“Preschool was fun! I played on the playground and I like my teacher Miss Char-ty (Charity) so so SO much. It was fun!”

After nap we baked a celebration cake.

look at all the layders

It’s a layder cake. It has three layders.

The hosting company for Yarn Miracle has ‘elevated’ Michael’s ticket. I hope that means you will experience fewer problems with the site’s availability really really soon.

Especially since server trouble makes me want to pitch a big, noisy fit.
