Busy

busy as a bee

My activity level as expressed in yarn.

Thank you all so much for the interest in and support for my Mindful Fiber project! I’ve got my list going – remember to refer your friends since the goal here is to raise awareness. The Farm Genevieve giveaway will be open until a week from Tuesday to give that “awareness” a chance to happen. In the meantime, I have every intention of replying to every comment…in between these toy orders.

And when I take breaks from the Itty Bitty Vulture pattern.

(I’ve got my test knitters! Thanks, y’all!)

I’ll go back to folding clothes now – William Henry climbs in the laundry hamper every time I pause to type.

At The End of the Tunnel

The best thing about being a toymaker is the North Pole contract work.

three cashmere bears

I can’t show you any of that – I had to sign a complicated NDA.

Those three bears are made with yarn from my new Cashmere Lady out in Washington. She had all of the kid fleece from this year spun into an absolutely fabulous yarn just for me. If it were any softer, I wouldn’t be able to feel it. I am absolutely thrilled to have found Ravenwood Cashmere and I can’t wait to see what shades 2012 brings! Ravenwood bears will start appearing in the shop this week.

My Christmas List is looking much less scary.

down to two

Just two more toys (the red post-its are orders for January).

On the other hand, Ellie’s To Do List is still rawther full.

so much to do!

So many things to do before Christmas!

Her list grows every day since she likes post-it notes as much as I do.

Incremental Knitting

When I was working on the starter dish cloths, I discovered that I spend a lot of time waiting. I wait for things to boil. I wait for cookies to come out of the oven (my oven has issues, I can’t leave them alone). I wait for everyone to be ready to get in the car. I wait for Ellie to get her shirt on the right way ’round. And pick up her toys. And for everyone to stop rolling around in the Big Bed so that I can make it up. I wait the eternity it takes for Ellie to eat six green beans.

This year’s dish cloth was great for waiting because it was easy to tell where I had left off. I kept one on the needles in the hall and another on the kitchen table. Once the starters were finished, I didn’t want to spend all that time waiting without anything to keep me company. So I relocated the CounterPain to a smaller basket and moved it from the kitchen counter (where I never touch it) to the kitchen table.

counterpain

Genius! The red paper clip is holding my place in the pattern.

I had to get a new project to live in the hall. Because I don’t have nearly enough to do. What I do have is a lot of sock yarn ends.

beekeeper

Which explains my instant attraction to The Beekeeper’s Quilt.

I had the clever little pattern memorized after one repetition and I am excited about the finished throw! It will be Very Blue. I have made quite a few blue socks.

I’ve got four honeycombs and a CounterPain Square finished. If you don’t consider that I need three hundred and something of the honeycombs and you do consider that I only need about 30 more CounterPain Squares, my incremental knitting is going quite well!

PS Dish Rag Tag Signups open on Monday.

Pink

Heavenly days, y’all.

I’m getting Ellie’s cold. I can feel it.

The pile of tissues next to my computer proves it.

I’m going to make the kid start wearing gloves and a mask in public.

pink play kitchen

Pink kitchen, pink vase, white birds.

We rearranged a little bit before Christmas and moved Ellie’s little pink kitchen, her ‘pantry’ and her table and chairs to her room. This instantly transformed it from a baby’s room to a little girl’s room (boo hoo hoo). It’s really cute in there and I am thinking of moving in. We should probably take some pictures, but that will require me to neaten and get out the umbrella lamp (it is DARK on the back of the house).

In case you are having a hard time seeing it, I took the vase outside and created a tableau. We found out that C.C. put it in the swap box (Ellie says “Nank you!”) for us! I’m not sure a piece of glass has ever had so much love.

hot pink elephant

Still Life with Magenta Elephant. They match!

My home has never had so much pink.

Time to blow my nose and make a cup of tea with lots of honey.

It’s a Zoo in Here

Ellie contracted and then kindly shared a virus this past week. We’re all fine now but it wasn’t a fun time.

These guys almost make up for it.

pint size pachyderm

Will be in the shop when I edit his pictures.

Ellie has her own lion already but requires an elephant in hot pink (she has settled for magenta). She says I can take a picture of her pink vase with the birds in it AFTER she has the elephant. I’ll get to work.

You’re the One

lucky ducky

Rubber Duckie for a fun customer.

Don’t miss out on your chance to win your own Yarn Miracle Itty Bitty Exclusive! There is still time to enter and win (and by enter, I mean leave a comment) an Itty Bitty Bunny in cashmere on the Natural Kids Blog.

He’s not a toy, he’s a pocket companion. Or a cubical watchdog. Or a belated Valentine (contest closes on Saturday). Go here and leave a comment and I’ll show you some knitting that isn’t a toy. I’ve got some around here somewhere.
