Handmade Holiday

In December (as you know), knitting takes a back seat to lots and lots and lots of other craftiness.

Ellie, Betty and I made wrapping paper while wearing pajamas (we were getting over our second wretched cold).

The vacuum in the background represents my good intentions.

We also made our Annual Limited Edition Christmas Ornaments.

Mamie was a big help.

When Ellie wasn’t looking, I made a family for the dollhouse she is getting for Christmas.

Daddy, Mommy, Ellie and six cats.*

And, while it sometimes takes a back seat, there is always always knitting.

A rooster for the shop and one for a customer.

Speaking of the shop, I did 90% of our Christmas shopping through Etsy this year. Ivey Christmas 2009 has been sponsored by my own shop and my brilliant customers. Because of this, I have developed a certain compulsion to stimulate individual economies. Each handmade Christmas present is not only a unique gift, but it has put a little more jingle in someone else’s pocket and a little more happy in their New Year.

For that, I am awarding myself 10 Do-Gooder Bonus Points.
Current Standings:
Christmas – 15, Emily – 15, Cats – 2 (for helping)

Half Way

The Dish Rag Tag Pack is past the halfway mark, but it’s still anybody’s game!

I’m only 1/3 of the way to my goal.

I’m headed to Mary Esther* this weekend. With car and front porch knitting, I might just catch up to the pack. Let’s have a little Dish Rag contest to celebrate!

In the comments for this post, provide a link or the name (or book title or whatever) to your personal favorite dish cloth pattern. If you’ve made it 50 times and love it more than ever, tell me. If you’ve had it in your Ravelry queue for years but haven’t gotten around to actually knitting it yet, I’d like to know that too. I will provide a dish cloth related prize to one lucky winner (chosen by random number).

One comment per person, please, and you don’t have to be racing to enter or win. I’ll close the comments and pick a winner sometime on Tuesday.

*That’s the best entry I can find by searching. I wish I had thought more about categories and tags five years ago when I started this thing.

Distraction

This is my first post with the latest WordPress. I’ve been using an ancient old version because I liked how the preview worked. This was supposed to be about the Dish Rag Tag prize for Fastest Turn-Around, but I forgot to take a picture while it was light out. This should surprise no one.

Look! What’s that over there?!

Better luck next time.

Three, a Kitty and a Surprise Drawing

That’s three squares of twelve.

Surprise! It’s Panda Sock!

When the RubySapphire* folks saw that I had used their Panda Sock Yarn (60% merino, 30% bamboo, 10% nylon and a whopping 430 yards of it) for the Ballband pattern, they sent some along to share!

I asked the Magical Random Number Generator for its opinion on the subject and it told me 17! Starting with the first person who bought the pattern and counting up towards the present on my Ravelry sales sheet, 17 was pinkknitting! Tiffany, there is some great Panda Sock ready to hop in the mail to you! On Tuesday. Since this is Labor Day Weekend. Is the anticipation killing you?

Personal Dish Rag Tag Challenge

Since I don’t get to race in Dish Rag Tag, I like to give myself a personal challenge while the race is happening. This year, I am going to make twelve CounterPain Squares before the final box makes its way back to me.

drtsquarechallenge.jpg

That’s one.

Last year, I made 12 before the first box got back. Last year, Ellie took 150% more naps. Last year, I wasn’t trying to make toys for my Yarn Miracle Etsy shop at the same time. I’ve lowered my expectations to compensate for the change in circumstances.

I’ve colored my Dish Rag Tag Goal Squares with purple in the Epic CounterPain Square Tracker (you can find it in the sidebar). The blue squares are my yearly goal for 2009. Brown represents completed squares (the big block at the top shows how many I’ve joined together).

This graphic will update with my progress.

Can I do it and still manage to keep up with everything else? I think so.

But only time will tell.

If you need some exposition about this whole Epic CounterPain Thing, please see this post.
